Childhood Dream Hood Pattern (English)

$8.50

The childhood dream hood is an adorable and cozy hood knit using dk weight merino held together with one strand of mohair, creating a dense and warm fabric to keep you warm during the cold months. This design features motifs inspired by flowers which grew in my childhood garden as well as motifs inspired by knitwear that I wore throughout my childhood. The childhood dream hood is part of the childhood dream collection, which is a compilation of designs inspired by knits that explore the inner child and are items that I would have adored as a child, and still do now, making these lifelong treasures.

The childhood dream hood is knit from the bottom up using US 8 (5mm) needles. First, stitches are cast on using the provisional cast on, then the hood is worked flat and increases/ decreases are used to shape the front of the hood around the neck / jaw. Fair Isle motifs are worked throughout the hood, using contrasting colours. Additional decreases are worked towards the top of the hood to shape the crown before the side panel stitches for the hood will be cast off while the top panel is worked. The top panel is worked flat in stockinette stitch and then the sides of the top panel of the hood will be joined with the side panels of the hood using the mattress stitch. Once all panels are joined, stitches around the front opening are picked up using US 6 (4mm) needles. 1x1 ribbing (k1, p1) is worked across the front opening stitches to form the front trim and is then sewn to the inside of the hood opening for a warm double folded edge. Finally, the bottom edge and front ties are worked.
